Nancy Jackson, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan Affairs, said that the United States would continue to support the vital work of India in the country. Indian ambassador to the United States, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, stated about the country’s active participation in Afghanistan since 2001. He revealed that the neighbouring country already completed 400 infrastructure projects in the country, while 150 other projects are underway. All the projects were carried partnering with the Afghanistan government and spread across all 34 provinces in the country.
While speaking more about the development projects, he claimed that social projects are not limited to any specific fields. India is investing heavily in projects from various areas, such as healthcare, infrastructure, irrigation, agriculture, flood control, sports, education, and administrative capacity.
India prioritized specific projects in Afghanistan and focused more on these projects, Harsh revealed. Low-cost housing projects for Afghan refugees in Nangarhar province and Kabul city Shahtoot Dam and drinking water projects were among the priority list.
India’s effort shows the country’s stand on its commitments for the reconstruction of war-prone Afghanistan, Harsh added. He further revealed India’s aspiration about Afghanistan in the future. He said that India wants Afghanistan to be a sovereign, democratic, stable, prosperous, and inclusive nation.
Both the speakers shared their opinion during an event called ‘The India-Afghanistan Relationship: Examining Historical, Political, Economic, and Cultural Tie’s’ organized by think tank Hudson Institute.
During his speech, Jackson criticized the approach taken by the Taliban. He further revealed that what both the countries are doing in Afghanistan is sustainable, and will benefit the ordinary people in Afghanistan.
