In a new report, it shows that the USA is suffering from the High-Tide flooding which is happening at twice the rate and it was just said to be 30 years ago. The nations coast has broken the records for tidal flooding for the past year, and the storms are now combined with seas level rising, and it results in water inundating the low areas of Boston, Miami, and other areas.
As per the scientist who is with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that some of the floodings coincided with hurricanes and nor’easters it was said to be the main reason for which the sea level rises due to the change in climate.
The oceans which are rising about 3 millimeters a year on an average are due to the melting of polar ice and warm water. The rate of melting is now accelerating, and it has led to the steady increase in the US coastal flooding in recent decades, as per the report. Cities which includes Atlantic City, Boston, Texas and Sabine Pass have seen more than 20 days of high-tide flooding which has occurred between May 2017 and April 2018.
The report shows the data from about 98 locations which are among the nation’s coasts to see the rose in water levels which is at a point that is typically inundated roads and infiltrates with stormwater systems and disrupts the daily life.
To address this issue, many cities started to search for the solutions. According to the Gregory Dusek, who is the chief scientist of NOAA’s Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services and also the co-author of this study has noted that the rise in the sea has already pushed the baseline high. The flooding which is occurring only during some major storms is now a common phenomenon.
