NASA to have a closest-ever encounter with Dwarf Planet Ceres

In a new development, NASA spacecraft will get to its closet position with the giant asteroid whose name is Ceres, and it is also said to be the only dwarf planet which is present in the inner solar system.

NASA’s Dawn Spacecraft will be approaching to an orbit which will be just 22 miles or about 35 kilometres above the Ceres, and it is the closest point which will allow Dawn to have its best views for the dwarf planet. At the farther point, the new elliptical orbit will be carrying dawn to 2,500 miles.

According to Carol Raymond, who is the principal investigator for the Dawn mission at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said that the team of NASA is now eagerly waiting to get the detailed composition and about high- resolution which is used for imaging from the new and close- examination. These type of new high-resolution data will help the researchers to test the theories which are recorded from the previous data.

The target on Ceres was that lower orbit which is known as the Occator Crater, and this is the place with strange and bright white spots. When it is at the lowest point, Dawn will be about ten times closer to the Ceres and this, in fact, the closest approach by Dawn till now with any object in the solar system.

This closeness by the Dawn will help the scientists to study the elements of their favorite places. The Occator crater is said to be the site of high reflective salt deposits. As per the Marc Rayman, who is the mission director and also the chief engineer for Dawn at JPL, said that to study the crater and the surrounding area, it could help in revealing more about the complex geology there.
