The growing outrage of animal abuse in Kerala is a spot on humanity how people turned the hunger of a pregnant elephant into a fun. The incident is of Palakkad district in Kerala where a pregnant female elephant came into the village in search of food but some villagers served her with a pineapple stuffed with fire crackers which later turned out to the last meal of the pregnant elephant. The elephant suffered serious damage to her internal body which lead her to surrender her life while standing in the river. The elephant die was pregnant and died in pain while villagers where enjoying her agony.

Seeing the brutal animal abuse the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan said on Wednesday that an investigation has been started in Mannarkad Forest Division in Palakkad district and the police has been asked to take strict action against villagers involved in this act. Reports also suggests that an FIR has also been lodged against unidentified people who are connected with this matter.

Pinarayi Vijayan also mentioned that “The forest department is probing the case and the culprits won’t be spared.” Two organisation have also announced cash rewards for the one helping in finding and arresting the offenders.

According to Mannarkkad dividsional forst officer (DFO) Sunil Kumar, the mother elephant might have come from the Silent Valley National Park and died 300m away from the Thiruvizhamkunnu forest section. He also mentioned that “We have registered a case for killing the wile elephant but nobody has been arrested and we’re waiting for the postmortem report to investigate the actual reason of death.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi slammed the Kerala State government for not taking cruelty against animal seriously. She told ANI, “It’s murder, Malappuram is famous for such incidents, it’s India’s most violent district, for instance, they throw poison on roads so that 300-400 birds and dogs die at one time.”

Several celebrities including Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma, Shraddha Kapoor, Randeep Hooda & Akshay Kumar asked for an action against the animal cruelty. Cricketer Rishabh Pant vented his anger on Twitter saying “Heartbroken, speechless, angry and shocked to read the news about the pregnant elephant in Kerala.”
