Earth’s might be in danger because of an approaching asteroid saying to be bigger than the Eiffel Tower. The asteroid named 2000 QW7 is coming close to our planet at the speed of 14,361 mph. The object measures 650 meters in diameter, which is bigger than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. As per the statement by Center for Near-Earth Object Studies, also known as CNEOS, the asteroid is going to pass Earth at a distance of 3.3 million miles, which is a safe distance. According to the scientists, if a celestial object us 1.3 astronomical units away from our planet, they will be called the near-Earth objects. The CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk shared on twitter that Earth does not have any defense mechanism to fight the approaching asteroid. Scientists named the asteroid, Apophis, in context to the Egyptian god of evil and rogue. NASA is associating with other nations to defend Earth from the upcoming danger.
What Are Asteroids?
Asteroids are the small objects made out of rocks, which orbit’s around the Sun. Though they orbit the sun but are not considered as the planets because they are very small in size compared to the planets orbiting the Sun. If an asteroid hits the Earth, there is a possibility that it might cause a lot of destruction. Talking about the approaching asteroid, it has the power to cause destruction equal to 65,000 Hiroshima nuclear bomb. The destruction might include tsunamis, high-speed winds, shock waves and even fire at several places. The possibility of asteroid reaching the Earth is its gravitational force, which attracts affects the big rock body. According to the recent news, asteroids 2019 NN3, 2016 NO56M, 2019 MB4, 2006 QV89, 2019 MT2, and others are passing by the Earth but there is no possibility of collision.
As per the video by a YouTube Channel, Second Thought, “Many scientists are keeping a close eye on the asteroid Apophis, which in 10 years will pass just 19,000 miles from Earth – basically skimming the surface in cosmological terms. To put in perspective just how close it will be, consider the fact Apophis will pass between weather satellites and the Earth.” If the asteroid collides on Earth, there is a possibility that it might dig-in up to 518 meters deep into the surface, as the weight of the asteroid is 27 billion kilograms.
NASA reported that as per the “current calculations show that Apophis still has a small chance of impacting Earth, less than 1 in 100,000 many decades from now, but future measurements of its position can be expected to rule out any possible impacts.” Talking about the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk addressed that the massive asteroid may cause a lot of destruction on Earth and for the survival, Mars should be set on nuclear weapons, which will release the carbon dioxide trapped on the planet. If this happens, Mars will become habitable and humans can shift to mars for survival. NASA is planning to destroy the approaching danger by blasting off a spacecraft into the asteroid, but the plans are still unclear. Whereas, Elon Musk suggests to blast a nuclear bomb on Mars to make it a habitable planet. Stay tuned for more details.
