54 Children were dead due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES) in previous weeks and more than 130 have been hospitalized in Muzaffarpur. It is claimed by a report that around more than 45 patients died who were suffering from AES  at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. In Kejriwal hospital Muzaffarpur eight people also lose the battle of life. AES havoc in the state of Bihar as people are hospitalized in a huge number and many of them dying on a daily basis. People of the state are threatened because of the hazardous syndrome.

Shailesh Kumar Singh who is a civil surgeon stated on Thursday,  “Forty-seven children have died due to AES and 137 are admitted in hospitals with high fever and other symptoms of the infection. 137 people were admitted in SKMCH hospital out of whom 40 causalities were reported.” He added, “41 people were admitted in Kejriwal Hospital where seven causalities were reported, taking the death toll to 47.” The disease is harming the children in a large number many are hospitalized and many of them lose their life.

Acute Encephalitis Syndrome is a viral infection cause characterized by an acute onset of fever and clinical neurological manifestation that includes mental confusion, disorientation, delirium, or coma. Apart from viral Encephalitis, a severe form of leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis can cause AES. It also threatens the brain and may lead to permanent brain damage or death.

The treatment of the syndrome is based on the age and condition of the person, it also depends on the form and cause of the disease. If AES is caused by the bacterial infection then it is treated by antibiotics and if the virus is herpes-related than it needs supportive care along with antiviral therapy with a preferred drug such as acyclovir.
